New Reloading Gear: Case Prep, Trimming & Brass Care

A good reload starts well before powder or primer enters the equation. Consistent case preparation can make the loading process easier, more repeatable and considerably less frustrating.

We’ve just added a substantial selection of case preparation, trimming, cleaning and inspection equipment to the Barry & Son website, with new gear from Lyman, Hornady and RCBS.

Case trimming

For powered trimming, the Lyman Case Trim Xpress is designed to speed up repetitive case trimming using spring-loaded, shoulder-contacting bushings for bottleneck rifle cases.

For those who prefer a traditional manual setup, the Lyman Universal Case Trimmer offers broad cartridge compatibility without requiring individual shell holders.

We’ve also added the RCBS Trim Pro-2 Shell Holder Conversion, which upgrades compatible RCBS trimmers to the spring-loaded universal shell-holder system.

Case preparation

The Lyman Case Prep Xpress brings several common case-preparation operations together in a single powered bench unit, keeping multiple tools ready for use without constantly changing accessories.

For lubrication and organisation, the Hornady Case Lube Pad & Loading Tray combines a traditional case-lubricating pad with a universal loading tray in one compact unit.

Cleaning brass

The Lyman Turbo Sonic 2500 Ultrasonic Cleaner uses heated ultrasonic cleaning to remove carbon, fouling and residue from cartridge cases and other compatible components.

It provides an alternative to traditional tumbling, particularly for shooters looking for a thorough clean in areas that media can struggle to reach.

Checking your finished work

Case preparation is only useful if the finished dimensions are right.

The Lyman E-ZEE Case Gauge provides a quick visual check of case length across a wide range of popular calibres, while the Lyman Ammo Checker Large Rifle allows loaded rifle ammunition to be checked for fit and consistency before it heads to the range.

Whether you are setting up a new loading bench or replacing individual tools in an existing setup, the new arrivals give reloaders several options for making brass preparation quicker and more consistent.
